I was driving around Corpus Christi taking pictures of some historically significant buildings in one of the older neighborhoods when the colors of the blue sky, red letters and the sunlight on the old white dirty building caught my attention. After taking some documentary shots, I framed this one up in what I think is a more artful graphic sort of way. I think it looks cool. Then, when I got home and looked on my computer I saw that I had captured a solitary bird.
The bird is generally thought to symbolism freedom, they can walk on the earth and swim in the sea as humans do but they also have the ability to soar into the sky. Birds are free to roam the earth and the sky. Many cultures believe that they symbolize eternal life; the link between heaven and earth.
After driving around this old deteriorating neighborhood, I can't help but think that this bird in some way represents an escape from a crumbling depreciating neighborhood and a new beginning, a new chapter. On the flip side it could also represent solitude and a loneliness that some of the people here, or in many other declining neighborhoods in our country, might feel.
I'll go with the freedom and new beginning symbology.
